Bath’s Italian connection
As a Sicilian, I feel at home in Bath — the Romans got here first. Bath began as Aquae Sulis, ‘the waters of Sulis’, founded soon after the Romans reached Britain, with a grand bathing complex begun in the AD 60s — caldarium, tepidarium and frigidarium: hot, lukewarm and cold baths.
It became one of the most celebrated spa towns of the western Roman Empire, drawing visitors from across the Roman world. In caldarium and tepidarium you can already hear Italian’s caldo and tiepido — in Bath, the language feels close.

For Bath, lessons are online over Microsoft Teams. I’m based near Dursley — not far away, as it happens — but online teaching gives us far more flexibility with times, and my students love learning from their own sofa. You lose nothing and save the drive.

£30 an hour for one-to-one lessons, with no hidden extras. If you’d rather begin in a group, my online beginners course runs for ten weeks at £150 total — starting Wednesday 16 September, 5.00 to 6.30pm, in a small group.

With pleasure — travel is one of the best reasons to learn. We’ll focus on the Italian you’ll genuinely use: ordering food, asking directions, chatting with hotel staff, understanding menus. As a Sicilian, I’ll also happily share where to eat and what to see.
